Why do literalists have eyes and hands?

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Matthew 5:29-30

If you guys believe literally in the bible, then why haven't you cut off your hands and gouged out your eyes? Are you forgetting all that masturbation and lusting visually after pornography? How can you tell that Genesis is literal and Matthew is figurative?

Best answer, posted by "LP S":

Carry the subject and object of what you are reading and you can get a better understanding if something is literal of figuratively. Obviously God doesn't want you to cut off a hand...

What is the subject of Matt 5:29?
the subject is in verse 13. The body being discuss in Mat 5:29 is the church body, as a whole. If a member of that church is sinning than you can kick him out of that church.

Look for the subject being discussed.

My response:

You've shown clearly the tortured logic of Christianity. It's "obvious" that Yahweh doesn't want you to cut your hands off. To me, it's equally obvious that the Genesis account is myth. This is what I'm trying to reconcile. There is no rational foundation for deciding what's literal and what's not.
